Counseling and psychotherapy is not about giving or taking advice. It is an exchange, a
dialog between the client and therapist and not a classroom session. It is about developing insight into what may be triggering the harmful symptoms of emotional distress so that they can be reduced.
People enter therapy because they feel lost or stuck in place in some way. With successful
counseling, the client feels intrigued by the self-discoveries made and begins to feel more hopeful, decisive and energetic plus their original symptoms go away.
